This is for the last ever remix competition at Back 2 You, the most excellent website whose remix projects I have worked on for the past six months or so… It gives producers who are learning a great opportunity to work with the material of well-established professional producers. Even if half the stuff I churn out is rubbish, these projects are great fun and very educational. The site is moving in a different direction from now on and it’s a real shame that this Krust – Warhead remix project is their final one.
Krust – Well what can you say? Part of Bristol’s Reprazent Crew, Krust is a Drum & Basssuperstar. The original Warhead, when it was first released in 1997, was a masterpiece of its genre. The bassline of the original is hard to match. The rawness, the wah wobble, the flow of the music – when you have worked on a remix, you really do start to appreciate these qualities in the original. My remix is packed full of different elements, including a cheeky Presidential sample… One of the samples in the remix pack had something that sounds to me like it’s saying ‘Mr President‘ so I was drawn to the idea of using the topical Obama sample. Also – it seems to conclude the business first launched by Wez G with his http://talibanhouse.com . I had fun working on this and hope that people will appreciate my efforts.
